Derrick Skating Club Photography 2025

Please arrive 10 to 15 minutes prior to your appointment. Skaters should be wearing the outfit/costume that they wish to be photographed in. Skaters will be provided with a place to lace up their skates 10 minutes prior to their session.

Each session includes 2 to 5 different poses. Photographs will be posted to a secure online gallery where you may view the images and select your favorites.

 

Macro Photography – May 24th & 25th, 2005

Macro Photography class will teach you the ins and outs of extreme close up photography. If you do not already own macro photography equipment, specialty lenses can be rented at McBain Camera or at Vistek in Edmonton.  The school can provide a limited amount of equipment for students to use during class. A handout for you to keep will also be provide. Lunch is included on both days.

DRONE PHOTOGRAPHY – Saturday May 17th, 2025

 

 

In this one-day primer on the basic operation of drones, participants will gain the necessary knowledge to safely operate a small drone and learn techniques to capture compelling aerial photographs and videos.

Not only are drones extremely fun to fly, drone photography and videography is increasingly used to create dynamic content for websites, social media and commercial applications. The use of drone imagery is used in a great many applications such as real estate listings, utilities inspections, traffic monitoring, environmental protection, agriculture, surveying and mapping, forest fire detection, news reporting, and are commonly used in the motion picture industry. Filming and photographing sporting events, wildlife, festivals, and weddings can be great fun and very lucrative business opportunities.

If you have been wanting to get started with drone photography, then this introductory course is for you! Instructor Andrew Shaw will share his extensive experience with drones to get you on your way. Andrew will teach you the basis operation and flight theory needed to safely and effectively operate a drone. With hands on demonstration and practice, you will learn the basics of capturing dynamic photos and videos with your remote-controlled aerial vehicle.

Flight operation would establish basic control of the drone (up, down, left, right) around a set course. Students will learn the ability to control the drove as per specific directions from the instructor with the drone facing towards and away from the operator. For safety reasons, practice will be limited to flights of no more than 100 feet high and within 100 feet distance of the operator. NO PRIOR EXPERIENCE OR CERTIFICATION IS REQUIRED FOR THIS CLASS.

You must have a computer to with Adobe Photoshop CS installed and updated. It is helpful to use a separate device such as a tablet or laptop to join the zoom meeting so you may follow the instruction on the your computer with Photoshop.

Digital Camera Fundamentals – Fall/Winter 2025

Digital Camera Fundamentals is a weekend workshop that will teach you to operate your camera outside of automatic settings. This will allow you to create different looks and styles to your photographs. It will help you to achieve better technical quality images and improve your understanding of your cameras capabilities and advanced features.
